New Prometheus Trailer

Sci-fi movies always live or die by the quality and believability of the production design to create the world of the story. Prometheus looks like the real deal.

Perpetual Ocean

Beautiful visualization of the oceans’ currents by NASA:

This visualization shows ocean surface currents around the world during the period from June 2005 through December 2007. The visualization does not include a narration or annotations; the goal was to use ocean flow data to create a simple, visceral experience.
This visualization was produced using model output from the joint MIT/JPL project:

Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean, Phase II or ECCO2.. ECCO2 uses the MIT general circulation model (MITgcm) to synthesize satellite and in-situ data of the global ocean and sea-ice at resolutions that begin to resolve ocean eddies and other narrow current systems, which transport heat and carbon in the oceans. ECCO2 provides ocean flows at all depths, but only surface flows are used in this visualization. The dark patterns under the ocean represent the undersea bathymetry. Topographic land exaggeration is 20x and bathymetric exaggeration is 40x.

This visualization was submitted to the SIGGRAPH 2011 Computer Animation Festival, but it wasn’t selected by the jury.

Dual Snowboards

If you thought that skis were the rollerblades of snow, you’re wrong.

And this Human Giant video is the perfect compliment.

Prometheus Trailer

As I’m sure you already know since I posted the TED2023 video, I cannot wait until Ridley Scott’s Prometheus comes out. Holy cow – the derelict spacecraft, the space jockey, the pre-eggs(?), some sort of proto-human villain, alien shrine(?), a semi-crazy android, flame throwers, and spaceship demolition derby. Curiously missing – a chestburster. I’m curious what’s on the tip of David’s finger in the last shot when he says ‘big things have small beginnings.’ Hrmmmm….

TED 2023 – Peter Weyland

I have been in love with the Alien/s mythology since I was a kid and saw Aliens for the first time. It seriously freaked me out and I thought that the little monsters were hiding behind the vents in the bathroom in my grandmother’s apartment. Now that I am older, I know that they obviously haven’t made it to Earth yet. And it definitely happens in the future, so I think I’m safe.

Ridley Scott released a pretty cool piece of marketing for the new prequel – Prometheus: a TED talk in the near future before Weyland creates synthetic humans and “the corporation” becomes the intergalactic profiteer of questionable ethics. He doesn’t explain much about what he’s up to other than creating pseudo-people, but linking the stories is cool enough for me. No mention of Hyperdine Systems in the Prometheus info, not sure why. Since the crazy android in Alien was a Hyperdine model, as was Bishop in Aliens. Maybe more info coming down the line.

Catvertising – John St.

Hilarious video of the future of the internet from creative agency John St. Who can argue with the future being determined by popular internet trends?

Waiting for Lighting – Danny Way Documentary

Waiting for Lighting is a new documentary about Danny Way and his superhuman progression and determination. If you’ve ever seen one of his video parts (especially the mega ramp ones), you know what I’m talking about. I can’t wait to see it. And since when does Rodney Mullen have a gold tooth?

Stacey Rozich – The Shrine / An Argument

One of my favorite Working Proof artists, Stacey Rozich did the character/set design for the Fleet Foxes video of The Shrine / An Argument. It’s pretty epic.

New Girl/Chocolate Film Trailer

You know that a video is hyped when it has an announcement for a trailer. But there is only one kind of video that lives up to its billing that those are the girl/chocolate/lakai videos. Ty Evans and Spike Jonze always make stuff look so next level.

I need to get one of those dolly arm rigs for my videos of our little one

Modern Warfare 3 Trailer – The Vet and The n00b

Yes. I don’t get to play much xbox anymore now that we have a little noodle around the house. But I do intend to get a copy of MW3 sooner or later.
