New print release! Ching Ching Cheng’s print, Love, is about the complexities of love – the ups and downs, the passion and the struggles. I love the simplicity of the shapes, and the complexity of the idea.
15% of each print sold will be donated to Farm Sanctuary. Ching Ching is a huge lover of animals, and has two dogs, a cat, a turtle, and 40+ fishes! Read our interview with Ching Ching here, and buy the print here.

New print release! Chinese New Year was a few weeks back, and it is the Year of the Dragon, considered to be the luckiest year in the Chinese Zodiac. We thought it would be fun to celebrate by releasing this print by Will Scobie – Midnight’s Dragon.
I chose a dragon for this piece, because visually dragons are really inspiring to draw, being made up of lots of interesting shapes and lines. In my work, I am always aiming for graphic simplicity that incorporates different ideas, but I also try to keep a fun feeling by adding unusual details.
15% of each print sold will be donated to American Forests. Read our interview with Will here, and buy the print here.

And, the sketch that led to the print.

New print release. We love OSoo’s detailed and colorful watercolors of animals, and the whimsical, architecturally-inspired details she weaves into her artworks. Deer is our 2nd print edition with OSoo.
The deer and its antlers reminds me of what it is like to be feminine and how fabulous nature is. The antlers are iconic and I wanted to represent them in a certain way that encapsulates my current interests in material qualities, fashion, style, and patterns of the Art Deco period.
15% of each print sold will be donated to Doctors Behind Borders. Read our interview with OSoo here, and buy the print here.

New print release! Andrea Hornick’s work centers around the addition of animal spirit guides to old masters’ portraits of women. Bound and Protected features Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’ portrait of Betty de Rothschild. Andrea altered Ingres’ painting to include Betty’s spirit guides – a pair of blessbucks.
These blessbucks help her to be in two places at once; she is hosting a safari and must be present with her guests, so one animal helps her to do this. In addition, she has offered to find each of her guests a power animal, so the other animal takes her on these quests. She gets on the back of the blessbuck, whom she rides on a journey to be shown the power animal of each guest, returns to report her findings, and then goes out again to quest for the next guest. This approximates a self-portrait, as she takes on my role as shaman, is Jewish, and wants to be in many places at once.
15% of each print sold will be donated to Victory Junction, who provide a fun and safe camping experience for children with serious illnesses. Andrea chose Victory Junction because she believes that spending time in nature can be incredibly restorative and healing. Read our interview with Andrea here, and buy the print here.

New print release! We’re happy to welcome Estibaliz Hernández de Miguel back to The Working Proof with her latest print, Shuffle Back in Line. The print was inspired by a Decemberists’ song, Rox in the Box, that was featured in a video shot by Juan Rayos, Carving the Mountains. The lyrics “…and you shuffle back in line” got into Esti’s head, and evolved into the image of several women standing in line, women who had probably forgotten where they were heading in the first place. Some are lost, while others are leading the line.
15% of each print sold will be donated to Doctors Without Borders. Read our interview with Esti here, and buy the print here.

New print release! Amy Vazquez is a Miami-based artist whose work focuses on the juxtaposition between the natural and the man-made. Incorporating natural patterns, imagined floral imagery, and obtrusive forms, she aims to create new landscapes that exist in the threshold between the familiar and the unknown. Florecen en la Memoria is a giclee print of an original mixed-media work on paper.
Amy chose to pair her print with The Pablove Foundation for their dedicated fight against childhood cancer and their efforts to ease the struggles of the children are in the midst of that battle. Read our interview with Amy here, and buy the print here.

New print release! El Butcher is a piece that came about from Alex Perez’ observations of the humorous infatuation that people (Alex included) have with meat. He wanted to create something that had a hint of humor for folks that embrace their love for a good old plate of bacon.
Alex chose to pair his print with Farm Sanctuary for their work regarding the treatment and living conditions of animals, which he believes is something that should always be considered when consuming meat. Read our interview with Alex here, and buy the print here.

New print release! We thought it was fitting to release James Gulliver Hancock’s print On the Road at the beginning of the new year. I always find the start of a new year to be inspirational – full of possibility, plans, and ideas. On the Road embodies that feeling – the promise of adventure and new experiences.
This is a two-color screenprint on 250gsm paper. Each print was signed and numbered by the artist. 15% of each print sold will be donated to 826 National. James chose to pair his print with 826 National because he loves “that the organization provides extra teaching for kids outside of school, makes homework cool and fun, and have those super fun shops for time travel and superheros.” Buy the print here, and read our interview with James here.

New print release! Our last of the year! Jenny Kim created this beautiful print out of charcoal and abstract coffee-colored washes. Now that New York City finally feels like winter, Coffee Deer feels like the perfect print release, with the barren landscape and the quiet dignity of the deer. I love the contrast between the abstracted ground, and the detail of the deer.
Jenny chose to pair her print with Puppies Behind Bars.
I’ve always had a soft spot for dogs, especially service dogs. I see great value in training dogs for the disabled or explosive detection canines for law enforcement, and also in the contribution these dogs make to those people in need of their service, love, and companionship.
Read our interview with Jenny here, and buy the print here. We will be back on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012, with a new print edition. Enjoy the holiday and thank you for all of your support of The Working Proof in 2011!
