Follow the Leader – Jessica Allan

Jessica Allan’s submission to Follow the Leader. Jessica is a freelance illustrator working and living in Shoreditch, England. Her illustrations are pretty intense and are beautifully done – it’s well worth taking a look at her portfolio!

Follow the Leader – Aissa Domingo

Look to the left! We’ve replaced the Idea’s column with thumbnails of all of the latest Follow the Leader submissions. If you click through the thumbnails, you will be taken to our brand new Follow the Leader gallery, which has larger images, for your viewing pleasure. We’ve also installed a rating system, so let us know which drawings are your favorites!

All submissions that we receive will be uploaded to the Follow the Leader gallery. We’ll be featuring our favorite submissions here on the blog. Thanks so much to everyone who has participated so far – it’s been so much fun seeing what you come up with! We hope you all will keep the drawings coming.

The drawing above is from Aissa Domingo. The weird, dancing stereos are pretty awesome. Thank you, Aissa!

Follow the Leader – Scott Balmer

I love this illustration for Follow the Leader by Scott Balmer“Wow, a Penny”. I love his use of color and the little frog jumping out of the jar. I never would have imagined taking the seed drawing in this direction, which is why I’m enjoying this project so much – it’s so great to see what the seeds inspire from other artists.

Below is another submission by Scott – “There’s a Starman Waiting in the Sky”.

Scott is a freelance illustrator who has worked with clients such as The Guardian, Inc. Magazine, and Business Week. He has a great portfolio of work – check it out here! My favorites are his promo pieces. Check out a feature on them tomorrow…

Follow the Leader – Hannah Karl

Follow the Leader is shaping up nicely – thanks very much to all of you who have submitted illustrations! I’m actually a bit behind in posting them and need to get some sort of gallery up and running soon to properly showcase all of the work.

The drawing above is from Hannah Karl.

Oh – and big thanks to Pikaland and Deep Fried Creative for featuring Follow the Leader. See all of the illustrations here.

Follow the Leader – Rebecca Murphy

How awesome is Rebecca Murphy’s submission to Follow the Leader? It’s titled: “I like motorbikes and carousel horses.” Heh. I love it.

Rebecca is an Australian artist whose paintings are explorations of the internal landscape and the world around us – of desire, destruction, vulnerability, sensuality, and humor. Definitely take a moment to check out her portfolio here.

Follow the Leader – Lauren Gentry

More Follow the Leader submissions – both are from Lauren Gentry, an illustration student currently studying at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. Thanks, Lauren!

Follow the Leader – Yael Miller

Look! Our first Follow the Leader submission, courtesy of the lovely Yael Miller. Awesome! Yael is a graphic designer specializing in branding and packaging, and writes for the very awesome blog, the Dieline.

Thanks so much for all of your emails about Follow the Leader – can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Sub-Studio Collaboration with You! Follow The Leader…

Hey all! We had an idea for a project and we’d love for you to collaborate with us!

Follow The Leader is a small project that we dreamt up recently that focuses on three things we like: friends, illustration, and collaborating with friends. Shown above and below are some drawing ‘seeds’. If you are interested in collaborating with us, please download a hi-res copy of your favorite seed drawing and complete it, however you are inspired to do so (color is welcome!). There’s only one rule: The location and size of our initial seed drawing should remain the same. Hi-res pdfs can be downloaded from our website. The pdfs can be opened in Illustrator or Photoshop, or printed out and drawn on by hand.

The immediate goal of the project is to publish the work here in an online gallery. The more drawings you do, the better, so don’t limit yourself to just one. Please send your hi-res drawing files to collaborate@sub-studio.com.

We will be making small editions of our favorite pieces and selling the prints in our shop. Each print sold will come with a blank copy of the drawing ‘seed’ so that the buyer can participate in the project by drawing their own artwork. We’ll be paying each artist a percentage of each set sold.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us.

Thanks for participating and happy illustrating!

Sean and Anna
