The Working Proof: Gemma Correll – Have You Hugged Your Cat Today?

New print release! This one is for all of the animal lovers out there. Gemma Correll is well-known for her sweet and humorous illustrations of life and animals.

I guess the idea behind Have You Hugged Your Cat Today? is fairly self-explanatory. I don’t have a cat myself – I have a pug, which is kind of like a cat except that he’s actually a dog – but I find that a hug from a small animal (cat, dog – not so much a rattlesnake or a plague-carrying rat) cures pretty much any ill.

15% of each print sold will be donated to the Pablove Foundation. Read our interview with Gemma here, and buy the print here.

Process: The initial drawing from Gemma’s sketchbook.
LeBrie Rich – TV/Dinner

I thought this was pretty cool – a tv dinner (complete with a beer can and a football game) made entirely out of felt by LeBrie Rich. LeBrie created the artwork for the window display of a knitting store in downtown Portland, OR.

The Working Proof: Heather Moore – Seeking

New print release! I’ve been a longtime Skinny laMinx fan – what’s not to love about graphic illustrations and bold colors? So, I’m thrilled to bring you this week’s print release by Heather MooreSeeking, a screenprint that began as an illustration cut from paper. Seeking makes me feel like I’m getting a peak into a jungle somewhere – lush vines and plants, and filled with wildlife that are both hidden and visible, if you know where to look.

Being from South Africa, Heather wanted to choose a charity that has a positive impact on her continent, so 15% of each print sold will be donated to the Jane Goodall Foundation. Read our interview with Heather here, and buy the print here.

Dirty Bandits – 2012 Calendar of Silly Holidays

This is cute – Dirty Bandit’s 2010 Calendar of Silly Holidays, featuring illustrations of the most absurd, non-denominational holidays they could find, including No Pants Day and Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day.

The Working Proof: Vasco Mourao – Sprawl

New print release! I’m so thrilled to be working with Vasco Mourao again – I’m a huge fan of his work. If you’re not familiar with Vasco’s super-detailed, fantastical and imaginary cityscapes, take some time to familiarize yourself! His newer works explore his drawings as matter that can be acted upon – molded, broken, scattered, compressed, twisted, and so on. His latest print, Sprawl, imagines an exploded city. This is a giclee print on Canson 200gsm acid-free paper with archival ink. Each print was signed and numbered by the artist.

15% of each print sold will be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières. Read our interview with Vasco here, and buy the print here.

The Working Proof: Laszlito Kovacs – Love Inspires

New print release! Laszlito Kovacs is back with a new edition – Love Inspires, a print centered around the belief that love is the “inspiration engine” for a better life. Laszlito’s artwork is inspired by phrases and words.

Phrases and words are like mantras for me, and the more I get attached to one, the more I discover. Because we live surrounded by information and receive input from all over the place everyday, I tend to get attached to one of my phrases for a while, in order to preserve myself amongst the mountains of information. I have the feeling that it is not me who finds and chooses the phrases, but the opposite.

The musician is the reincarnation of inspiration. Music often opens our minds and heart and prepares us to embrace inspiration.

15% of each print sold will be donated to 826 National, because Laszlito believes that words, phrases, and books open our hearts to a new world. Read our interview with Laszlito here, and buy the print here.

Laszlito’s previous edition: Vida Lenta.

Wandern im Wissen Installation

“Wandern im Wissen” (Wandering in Knowledge) is a gorgeous installation between four floors of a library at the University of Bremen. For the last 350 years, the library has served as a source of information for visitors, fulfilling an endless flow of inquiries on a daily basis. “Wandern im Wissen” takes these requests and displays them digitally on a sculpture of folded paper, inspired by the connection between traditional storage medium and the digital information world.

Little Studio – Nordic Happy Design

We received this post submission from Little Studio titled “Nordic happy design”, and I think that’s the perfect name for these pieces. Their works are inspired by children – they are playful, beautiful. and colorful!

Children’s ability to see things for more than what they really are, is a great inspiration to us. For example, a triangle could just be a triangle – but it can also be a mountain. Or a circle, a circular symbol, can with other circles turn into soap bubbles.

The Working Proof: Anna Emilia Laitinen – Morning Frost Meadow

New print release! Anna Emilia Laitinen is a Finnish artist who is inspired by nature: landscapes, changing seasons, the effect of the weather upon the world. This beautiful print, Morning Frost Meadow, is an illustration of an early morning sunrise over winter flowers in a meadow.

The first cold night has painted everything in frost, the sun starts to tickle and wake the plants up for a new day. Morning Frost Meadow was originally a watercolor painting dreaming of exotic flowers and Northern green leaves.

15% of each print sold will be donated to the Pablove Foundation. Read our interview with Anna Emilia here, and buy the print here.

The Working Proof: Penelope Dullaghan – Reading Under Tree

New print release! Reading Under Tree by Penelope Dullaghan is perfect for these crisp fall days – changing leaf colors, scarves and gloves, favorite books, hanging out outside while it’s still warm enough to. There’s nothing better than sitting under a tree in the park and letting the sun warm your back while watching the world move around you, or while reading a book. Penelope’s print encapsulates that feeling perfectly.

15% of the sale of this print goes to the Farm Sanctuary. Penelope became a vegetarian five years ago because she wanted to do her own small part to help put an end to factory farms and cruelty to animals. She chose Farm Sanctuary for the awareness they are bringing to this issue.
