This new print by Mark Warren Jacques reminds me of Native American dream catchers, a symbol of protection that “caught any harm that might be in the air as a spider’s web catches and holds whatever comes in contact with it” (Wikipedia). Rather than catching harmful things, The Things I Think Dangle From Me Like This captures and displays the positive elements of our selves – beliefs, knowledge, truth. As Mark describes the piece:
The Things I Think Dangle From Me Like This is a piece about self awareness and self exploration. The diamond shape with descending steps of blue into outer space represents the mind and its structured infinite nature. The dangling charms are our beliefs, our knowledge, and our truths, if you will. We wear these truths for all to see – they are our history, and in many ways, our self-worth.
Beautiful! 15% of each print sold will be donated to Farm Sanctuary. Buy the print here, and read our interview with Mark here.

It’s cool to see artists work with public data, but they are usually visualizations of non-visual data. Project 12:31 is interesting because uses a visual data set (The Visible Human) to make a new visual interpretation of the information. Croix Gagnon and Frank Schott used the visible human animations to create a series of lightpaintings that give 3d life back to the 2d data.

Anna and I got to spend a bunch of time on the north shore of Kauai in the last few years and now when I see Hawaiian print stuff, I don’t have the same ‘whoa that’s ugly’ reaction. Instead I remember how amazing the islands are and how cool everything that comes from there is – even aloha-wear. The Aloha Pack from Vans Vault captures that aloha spirit in the classic hi and lo top silhouettes.
