All Year Round Calendar – Lene Mirdal

The All Year Round Calendar, designed by architect Lene Mirdal is an atypical organization of a calendar, but combined with the gradually changing colors of the colorwheel give the circular layout a complimentary framework.

Pista Deportiva La Figuressa – alceola+tárrago

The Pista Deportiva La Figuressa is a simple stadium structure built in Spain by alceola+tárrago. The large scale gesture of the angled overhang and full wall of polycarbonate panels, the gym is illuminated by the sun during the day and itself illuminates the site by night.

Awon Golding – Elements

Sometimes Facebook is good for more than just keeping track of your friends’ Halloween costumes and their cute babies – last week I came across a middle school friend’s new business, and I am so smitten.

Awon Golding is a London-based milliner whose work melds Eastern and Western cultures. Her Elements line is inspired by traditional Japanese arts and crafts methods such as origami, sashiko and lacquering. The five pieces in the collection represent the five elements according to Japanese tradition – Earth, Wind, Fire, Water and Void – and the balance between form, colour and technique.

Louis Glanzman

A small collection of Louis Glanzman is over on leifpeng’s flickr. It’s part of a mammoth set of work by classic illustrators. It’s a great resource for a ton of amazing work.

The Working Proof: Adam Hancher – Man of the Woods

Man of the Woods is a new print by Adam Hancher. Adam’s work is mainly influenced by print, engravings and woodcuts – in particular the artworks of Thomas Bewick and Utagawa Hiroshige. He also takes inspiration from 1920′s and 30′s graphic design, having specific interest in the composition and limited colour palettes applied to work of that era.

The piece was taken from a body of work that placed emphasis upon different approaches to hunting. The series contrasted the reckless approach of the weekend hunter from out of town to the woodsman who is one with nature. This print depicts the humble woodsman.

15% of the sale of this print goes to the Kids In Need Foundation. Read our interview with Adam here, and buy the print here.

Nike Grid – Run for Data

We’re not big running fanatics over here. In fact, I pretty much hate running. But the Nike Grid project takes data from people’s runs and makes an interesting game out of it. In London, neighborhoods are divided with phone booths. First, you setup a unique ID number. Second, you dial your ID as you pass through the phone booth waypoints. Third, Nike puts together interesting visualizations on the data collected, like the video up top.

Konstantin Slawinski – Join Cutlery

So fun! For all of us out there that tried to get our utensils to stand on end as kids: Konstantin Slawinski’s Join cutlery.

Cheshire Cat T-Shirt

The Cheshire Cat t-shirt uses UV ink and glow-in-the-dark ink to make three shirts out of one graphic. I think it’s a pretty smart way to combine the printing tech. And the big cheshire grin makes me snicker. As an extra bonus, the shirt was designed by a high school(!) kid named Skylar. Way to go for Threadless for making design more democratic and accessible to all ages of designers.
