I’ve always loved Thelermont Hupton’s work, so it was a pleasure to meet them at ICFF this year. Their booth featured a bunch of cool products, but my favorite were their Off the Wall Pots – small plant pots that you mount to your wall for a splash of green anywhere in your house.
Also interesting were their Stuck on You hooks in the form of embedded kitchen utensils.
World Cup 2010 starts up very soon. And even though the Adidas 2010 Jubilani Ball was developed a while back, I wanted to show this factory video… because I love factory videos. You’ll see how they build a world class $150 ball. Pretty different from the typical $20 training ball.
An amazing photo by Rocky Norton of Monico Candelaria over at the Fresh Crops section of The Skateboard Mag. Sometimes the simplest tricks make for the best images.
Faceted designs was a major trend at ICFF this year. JSPR put out an entire collection called Arctic Rock – tables and chairs with faceted surfaces, sculpted out of solid wood and finished with a high gloss polished paintwork. The bench was my favorite. The Arctic Rock series comes in a bunch of different colors.
The New British Design booth featured Ben Huggins’ work. I especially liked his Annie Get Your Coat rack. It is made from laser cut steel in the form of four stylized rifles leaning against one other to create the coat stand.
Also very nice is the Together Chair – a gorgeous bent-plywood rocker with a splash of color.
Brooke Woosley’s Oru coffee table was inspired by the art of paper folding. It is essentially a table made from a sheet of bent aluminum. Beautiful lines, simple design.
I love this print by Rich Gemmell. It was inspired by Transportation Alternatives – a NYC-based non-profit that advocates for bicycling, walking and public transit as the best transportation alternatives – in that instead of traffic jams and exhaust fumes, the man is traveling to work down the river in an environmentally friendly kayak.
Buy the print here, and read our interview with Rich here.
Jan Kath’s Milano Radi rug caught my eye at ICFF – I love how the pattern in the rug seems to be falling apart or unraveling. Up close, the pattern looks more like moss than wool.
The MGX by Materialise booth had some really exciting pieces. Materialise has paired up with a some great designers, using 3D printing technologies to create furniture and products that otherwise couldn’t be made. WertelOberfell – Platform were my favorite designers being featured in the Materialise booth, with their amazing Fractal.MGX coffee table (derived from studying the fractal growth patterns of trees), and the Dragonfly.MGX pendant light, which was inspired by the curved honeycomb structure of insect eyes.
